Re: SWGAide --- Your SWG Swizz Knife

I think i have found a compatability issue. I missed some updates and went from 0.8.16 to 0.9.4 (then maintained updates from there). I did not notice this until now because I had not had the chance to explore the "Today's Alert" panel, but it is not functioning for me. And by not functioning I mean the panel itself is blank when I click on the tab and somtimes I cannot even click on the "Today's Alert" tab from other panels. Also, the help for "Today's Alert" does not show when I click on it (I did this to see the help information incase I missed a step). The help is there when I navigate through index.html. I then downgraded from 0.9.6 to 0.9.5 to 0.9.4 and found that in all of those versions the panel also did not work. I looked at the notes for the updates that I missed and I see in 0.9.1 changes were made to the DAT file. Could this be the reason I am having issues? I get no sort of error message, I just get a blank panel as if nothing was coded there.

I have found that the panel will work if I do a "fresh install" but obviously I lose all of my settings. Was hoping there could be a fix other than exporting my inventory and guards into a new install of SWG Aide.

Thanks...let me know if I am unclear in something. Trying to type this while holding an upset 1 month old (my reason for missing those updates :P).

Hello Ruh, congtatz on the new baby :)

Obvious questions first: have you restarted your computer lately? Check your virus and firewall logs to see if it is blocking? Have you checked 'run as administrator' for javaw.exe?

You mentioned that a fresh install works? A couple of ways to fix this problem, you can try to figure out what is wrong or just import into a new install. Importing would be the fastest method, navigate to your swgaide install (C:\Program Files (x86)\SWGAide) and make a copy of your entire swgaide ..store this in a new folder for safe keeping.

Then, from inside swgaide, export your mails, inventory, and guards into the backup folder you made previously ..for safe keeping.

When you are ready, delete the swgaide folder ..then proceed with a fresh install ..when you have it working, import your saved mails, inventory, and guards ..one at a time, each time restarting swgaide (this may reveal the original problem).

From your backup folder you made earlier, move also the album files, if you have saved any screen shots from the game.

Zimoon may have an easier way to help you, but this will work ...I had some extra time at breakfast this morning ..lol, and an extra cup of coffee.
If it's stuck :x ...force it ...if it breaks, you needed a new one anyway :)

Thanks, having a boy is a new adventure. Prior to him we went through three daughters lol.

Thanks, I will probably give that a try later tonight (backup and then fresh install) especially if Z isn't able to come up with something else. I didn't have time last night to deal with it so I posted hoping there was already a known solution that I missed. I don't think the issue is with any of your other suggestions as I have never had an admin issue with SWG Aide and I thought that was for people using OS other than Windows XP (I'm slow to upgrade and haven't gotten Vista or 7). Plus, it works fine when I do a fresh install in a new location. Personally, I think the issue is with my SWGAide.DAT file. Since that is the only thing I could see that was different from my bugged install and the fresh one and there were a few .DAT file changes in the updates that I missed (but I would also assume that code wasn't removed in subsequent versions).

Yeah ..shoulda asked what op-sys you were using first ..XP was a favorite of mine. When/if you decide to upgrade, go directly to win7 pro64, I have found this one to be more robust than previous versions. (BTW ..I have my old reliable XP box sitting on my other desk, for dual logging)

Since you are running an older op-sys ..maybe also older hard drive? Consider running your disk checker and defrag, in case there may be a file allocation problem. Also there can be an issue if your disk is nearing the full mark, may want to check that as well.

There are some log files in the swgaide folder that may give an indication of your error ..you can view them with notepad.

First a big and warm congratz to your baby :D
Those were the days, they screamed and farted.
Now they are a lot bigger, and still screaming and farting

Did you check the error log file by chance? Or the general log file? I am pretty sure the error file contains a clue for me. If you post anything, just make sure there ain't anything sensitive in it.

It is possible I have overlooked something between versions, the question is what. And probably the fix is quick -- how computer savvy are you in the case I can provide you with a patch in 2 days or less?

Thank you thank you :D.

Sent you a PM with my logs, don't believe there was any sensitive info, but I may have missed something :P.

Great, thank you, I have responded to the PM. Sorry for the delay, life is a mess sometimes and all of my energy kinda run out :(
No worries though, I am doing fine.

It's all good. RL is the priority not me breaking things in SWG Aide lol. :)

Re: SWGAide --- version 0.9.6

Post by Zimoon » Tue Apr 26, 2011 6:31 pm

SWGAide version 0.9.7 is available

This version adds two minor features:
--- An option to have the Schematics Viewer to display also named resource classes for LQ schematics; this is the dialog that displays resources for all HQ schematics that can use them, and their rating. The term named resource classes is used for those that spawn in the worlds, such as Desh Copper, Rori Fiberplast, or Tatooinian Fruit, and the idea is that you may want to know when something can be used for LQ stuff.
--- At The Laboratory, if you select a resource that is included also on another experimental group it is now somewhat highlighted. Find a schematic, for example A Black Sun Razor Knuckler, that for example calls for both Copper and Non-Ferrous Metal -- select a copper and it is probably listed as a non-ferrous as well and now you discern such resources a lot easier.

Bug fixes are listed in the history file:
  • Added option to list LQ schematics for named res-classes to Schematics Viewer
  • At The Laboratory all occurrences of a selected resource is now highlighted
  • Fixed a bug that crashed Today's Alert when starting with very old DAT file (thx Ruh)
  • Fixed two bugs with import-from-notes-file at resource inventory (thx Nautillus)

Several things have distracted me from SWGCraft and SWGAide recently and to chill out and gain energy I have just played SWG in some kind of zombie-mode. That is why I have not responded quickly to whatever and it is one of the reasons this bug-fix-release is delayed.

I had also hoped to be able to include the support for submission of historical resources but now you will just find a disabled check-box at the Submit Resources panel ... I have tested it and it works, but I need to add a lot better error handling than the current one; there are so many oddities that can happen when submitting historical resources and I have the option to just bail out on anything slightly out-of-bounds, or to provide some first-aid options for the most common causes (most things that can happen is not your fault but due to old but erratic stuff of various kinds).

During the hours SWGCraft was down a week ago I noticed several oddities in how certain Internet error/information messages are handled by SWGAide. Some happenings that are expected are handled as errors and SWGAide bails out unnecessarily harsh. I begun improving this too but realized some parts of the error/information handling in SWGAide must be reworked and that is a bit larger than I have time for so I ripped it out and have put it aside on its own project for now, not to pollute the code that works even if it shows glitches when Internet or a server somewhere is down.

Either way, summer is around the corner and now Zimoon is smiling ... and planning for the SWG London meet-up in less than two weeks :D

Thanks and enjoy
Zimoon

Re: SWGAide --- version 0.9.6

Post by Zimoon » Sat Apr 30, 2011 4:14 pm

SWGAide version 0.9.8 is available

This version simplifies transfer of your resource inventory from one galaxy to another.

How to?
Switch to the Resource Inventory of the departure galaxy, right-click and select Galaxy copy... and select a destination galaxy; then, at both the source and target galaxies you can easily edit, update-amount, merge, or delete whatever resources.

For more info on how to populate Resource Inventory in SWGAide, go to that tab and click F1 or the Help menu.

If you have an "inventory" in some kind of file or maybe an excel sheet, export or convert it to text-file that follows SWGAide's documentation, and in SWGAide you right-click the inventory and select File import... --- if that does not work, post in this forum board and we will sort it out. Otherwise an easy way is to within SWG use a notes file and at SWGAide's resource inventory select the popup option Notes import/update to populate the inventory, this is also read in the help texts but feel free to ask for extra details if anything is fuzzy.

Enjoy

Unfortunately not, that is an info messgae that something is missing with these schematics here at SWGCraft, a reminder that a munitions trader could submit some data :)

I am interested in the content of the ERROR log file.

But I see one thing, the general log file does not read the version of SWGAide, my bad, will fix.

Looks like a problem with one of my mails?!

Sorry maninspace, I don't why I missed this post from you but I did, sorry again.

This should not happen so I need to walk over the code and see why it happens. You can try to find that mail, you see the file-name in the error message, and delete it to see if that resolves this problem.

A few times in the past I have run across mails with odd or possibly corrupt content. I have no idea how that can happen or if SWG is the suspect or maybe SWGAide when copying the mail. I would appreciate if you PM'd me a copy of its content, at least the topmost 5 or 6 lines.

Cheers
Simon

Hi maninspace,

I have eventually had a deep and thorough look at this issue but the erratic mail should not cause SWGAide to choke. It just writes the error message and continues, it also updates a file named "mail-error.txt" within the "logs" folder, just some information about the error file bot no more.

In this case the erratic mails have unreadable ID numbers, this is the the topmost line of a mail and equals the number of the file name itself. If the file is corrupt this will happen, mails are not supposed to be edited but a static record.

So ... this leaves me, and you, with the question "what is going on when SWGAide chokes?"

You may want to PM me perhaps, in case I need some more sensitive data. To begin with:
  1. Exactly when do SWGAide choke? How far is the progress meter at the splash screen?
Is there anything else in any of the files, maybe many files, within the "logs" folder?
Cheers
Zimoon
