Presenting the Dev Tracker!

Post by Sobuno » Tue Nov 06, 2007 5:44 pm

Hello guys,

For approximately a month, a script has been running every 30 minutes collecting new posts from the official Dev Tracker. Tonight, our Dev Tracker page goes live :)

This is just an additional feature for the site that I thought about a month ago. Over the timespan of SWG, many people have been browsing forums from work. Unfortunately, the official boards have been blocked from some workplaces, requiring people to actually work! I thought that was outrageous and set out on the journey to create a Dev Tracker.

Our Dev Tracker is actually a combined Developer and Community Relations tracker, but you are able to select which category you want to view. You are also able to select a specific poster and only see posts from that guy/girl.

Furthermore, you can search for strings. Note that the page does not check if the search string is in the middle of another word (Example: A search for NGE will also return posts with the word change)

Odd, I must have accidently placed this topic in forum only available for developers. Put it back here (and gave the page some new colors)

Updated the tracker with better highlighting and search. It won't try to highlight something that's part of a tag (For example part of a path to an image) and it will not return those posts as results either.

They also only return results on whole words now. That is, you won't get a post containg the word "change" when you search for "nge" for example.

I love this tracker vs the SOE one, glad I finally discovered it...

Heh, it was because I saw your post that I went back and fixed a few bugs within it. Namely, SOE had decided to change the format of the RSS feed I get the posts from which broke the links back to the SOE forums.

There's one small problem with this tracker though: It doesn't track changes so what you see on this site is how the post looked at the moment our parser grabbed it. It may have changed since then on the official boards.

The highlighting is now done with a background-color change instead of a font-color change. Should be easier to spot highlighted words.

Finally made a change so that non-Javascript users can also use the "Show post" feature

EDIT: "Link post" will take Javascript users to the same page as the page non-Javascript users get when clicking "Show post"

I love this feature, can sit at work and follow updates without the need to login at SOE and "destroy" my recent-login-cookie :D
